The Boys
Smoke and Ares
Smoke and Ares were our first two little rat rescues. A nice woman had adopted a rescue rat who turned out to be pregnant, and she couldn't keep all of the babies. We took the two of them in hopes they could be ambassador animals. They are both very sweet but a little shy. Once Smoke matured he unfortunately decided that he did not want to be friends with any of the other rats and was starting fights. He now lives by himself, his cage beside the other rats. He doesn't appear to mind at all, and seems to love the extra attention he now gets from our animal care staff.
Mr. grey and Frost
Mr. Grey and Frost came in with over 40 other rescue rats, that came from a breeder going out of business. All of the rats were in horrible condition. The facilities that had been kept in were cramped, rancid, and looked and smelled as if they had never been cleaned. They were underfed and very skinny and malnourished. Many of the rats were ill and did not make the trip back to our center. The rats that survived received proper, humane care, and once well enough were adopted out. A select few were chosen to stay with our center, Mr. Grey and Frost among them.
The Girls
Manxie, Moon, river, Melody and Shadow
Manxie, Moon, River and Melody were among the 40 rescue rats taken in. Manxie is by far our most outgoing and friendly rat, and makes a wonderful educational rat. Melody suffers from chronic URI issues, and due to her illness we decided it best not to adopt her out, and therefore she became a permanent member. Melody came in nursing a litter, Shadow is one of her babies.
