Dezerae Danis

Picture

Founder, President
She has always had a passion for animals that began when she was a child.  She had a special bond with cats and Today she has 5 rescue cats, a rescue Wolfdog and 1 ferret. In high school she volunteered with National Mill Dogs Rescue. When she was 16 years old she started a Zookeeping Technology Degree at Pikes Peak Community College. From there she delved into the animal field and started volunteering at several animal facilities such as Wild Blue Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, where she was placed on the medical team which landed her a job at a Veterinary hospital as a Kennel Technician. From there the hospital trained her to be a Veterinary Assistant. After volunteering with the cat sanctuary almost a year she moved on to another rescue and was hired on as staff as a Kennel Technician and later promoted to be a Team Leader at Look What the Cat Brought In Rescue and Shelter. Through her degree she also spent time volunteering with other facilities including Birds of Prey Foundation (A raptor bird wildlife rehabilitation center), Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary, and some time spent with Mission: Wolf, and the Pueblo Zoo. She finished her coursework and is now halfway through Veterinary Technician School, and is starting to attend UCCS for Pre-Veterinary Requisites and a Bachelors in Biology. Over the summer Dezerae decided to leave the hospital she worked at for a No-declaw hospital and was hired on as a Veterinary Assistant at Cattails Feline Health Center, where she stayed for a little over a year before leaving to work at an Animal Er and Specialty center where she
currently works to help pay for the rehabilitation nter costs. She also parted ways with her job at the rescue and now volunteers with a new sanctuary called Happy Cats Haven and works on her internship at Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation where she learns wolf behavior and how to care for them. Her previous internship was at Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where she spent 3 weeks interning this summer before she was hired on as an Animal Care Technician as seasonal staff. She aspires to one day be a Wildlife Veterinarian and open an even bigger, all species accepting Wildlife Rehabilitation Center near the Springs.

She was enrolled in Bel-Rea Veterinary Technician school in Denver where she learned hands-on animal husbandry techniques. After a pause in career, she later enrolled and graduated from Pikes Peak Community College with a degree in Zookeeping Technology. She also volunteered with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, where she worked hands on with several primates. Through her degree she did 3 internships, two with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The first being a administrative assistant for designing and participating in animals festivals such as Eagle Days, Walleye spawning, Big sheep counting and field work with a biologist to do a necropsy of a bighorn sheep. Next, she became a Park Ranger for Lake Pueblo State Park. She was tasked managing patrolling, caring for the visitor’s center animals, emergency situations, animal transport and working with the Aquatic Nuisance Species supervisor on a revenue project. Her last internship was the Pueblo Zoo where she worked in a new area every week, from hoof stock, lions and painted dogs one week to otters, penguins and reptiles the next. Upon graduation, she took a seasonal job with Colorado Parks and Wildlife as a Customer Service Representative and the Main Technician for Chronic Waste Disease testing. She hopes to find a sponsor and become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for all sizes of Mammals.
