Nova is our oldest cat, at 18 years old. He has been with our Founder all of his life, and most of hers. He has always been The King of the household, demanding attention and pets and for doors to be opened for him. When he was younger he was an indoor outdoor cat and was a supreme hunter. For his safety, and for the safety of wildlife Nova was made an indoor only cat. Nova is a sweet, very loud and demanding, cat. He yowls throughout the day and night.
Nova is also a fighter and a tough old man. When he was 7 years old, his tongue swelled up out of nowhere and he had to be rushed to the ER. He was very sick, and the Vets could not figure out what was wrong with him. After nearly a grand in testing and ER care, they had no answers but to just keep him in the hospital for observation. At the time our Founders mother was in charge of his care, and took him home to pass at home. But Nova did not pass away. The road to recovery for him was a long one, and for a long time he was very weak. After a couple years he was in good health once again. When he was 15, he developed kidney issues, IBD, dental issues, and a cancerous tumor on his chest. Thankfully our director worked at a Feline hospital at the time and was able to get his IBD and kidney issues under control, have a dental done and surgery to remove the tumor on his chest. Nova went through everything like a champ and recovered very quickly. He has had a few scares since then including another emergency trip to the ER for full blood work up and x rays, an endoscope, ultrasound, echocardiogram and aspirates of his spleen and liver. Thankfully his labwork showed little wrong, with just a grade 1 heart murmur that does not require medication at this time, and moderate IBD. Today his biggest issue is his arthritis, which we are trying new pain medications for.
